I just want to take a second to appreciate how lucky I am to be blessed with the friends I have. My home friends are almost like an old favorite pair of jeans. They’ve been around forever and they know how to hug me in all the right places and you don’t have to work for anything, it always comes easy. They are always exactly where you left them. These friends will be around forever, simply because I can’t imagine what my life would be like if they weren’t a part of it. They’ve seen me grow up in so many ways and they know me… like they knew me in the terrible life stage of middle school and they don’t talk about those times and I love them for that. Because let’s be honest, who is proud of who they were in 7th grade? Anyway, somehow we got through that and if we can get through that we can get through anything right?
The thing about making friends in college, is they become your family whether you plan on it or not. When you grow up your entire life living with your family and having your friends on the side.. it’s different when you live with your best friends. Not only are they the first people I go to to have fun and get drunk and do things, they’re the people I can call drunk at 3 am because I’ve been irresponsible and need a ride. They’re the people that come with me to a doctors appointment because my mom usually does that and she’s not around. Living with people makes you see them in a whole other light, you don’t really see someone absolutely clearly until this, which can sometimes be detrimental to an otherwise perfect friendship. But when you can live with a group of your best friends and remain great friends, you transcend all of the bullshit and these people become a part of you.
Anyway, even though the structure of friendships can be so different, it is valuable in every sense and I honestly don’t know what I would do if I wasn’t surrounded by such incredible people at all times.
